Project Overview
A shared vision for Yukon housing
Chasàn Tatäy is a vibrant new neighbourhood.
Formerly known as Range point, Chasàn Tatäy development emerged out of a partnership between Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Government of Yukon. With more than 300 housing units on two adjacent parcels (37 acres on KDFN Settlement Land Lot C-15B and 8-acres of Government of Yukon land Lot 262-6) this development aims to contribute to both housing in the City of Whitehorse and economic reconciliation.

Chasàn Tatäy is the largest subdivision developed to date by Kwanlin Dün First Nation, and the first to be developed in partnership with the Government of Yukon. It is located on Settlement land parcel C-15B, just off Range Road in Whitehorse. The neighbourhood will include a mix of different housing types including single-detached homes as well as duplexes and condominiums. There will be a large park and trails in the neighbourhood, as well as access to nearby greenspaces (Chasàn Chùa Territorial Park).
Kwanlin Dün is the largest landowner in the City of Whitehorse, with 30.38 km2 of land within city limits. Land claim negotiators picked out certain parcels of that land to be used for revenue generation to support government programs and services. This development is the first step towards realizing that vision.
The 300+ homes built at Chasàn Tatäy will be sold to the general public. Kwanlin Dün Citizens will have a preferential offering on purchasing there.
The vision for this neighbourhood, as described through consultation with the KDFN community in 2013-2014 and 2021, was solidified with the publication of the Range Point Master Plan published in 2023.
The Southern Tutchone name, Chasàn Tatäy, means Copper Narrows in English. This reflects the history of the area (there are many stories about copper nuggets found in the area) and the nearby narrowing of the Yukon River.
We are gathering ideas from Citizens about how KDFN's culture and history can be reflected in common spaces in the neighbourhood, as well as in its branding. We look forward to incorporating the work of KDFN artists wherever possible.
